It all starts with one simple word. YES.
Well, really it starts before that.
It starts when your mind considers, “Maybe this isn’t all there is?”
It starts when you start thinking ‘what if’. “What if I could…” “What if I did…”
It starts when your heart starts to soften. When you let go of the white-knuckled grip on your plans. On your life. On your dreams. They're yours anyway, right? Why would anyone else get a say?
But then you start to consider it. Just to think about it. Just to weigh the odds. And slowly, as the Holy Spirit works and moves and plants seeds.
You start to change.
And then you aren’t holding so tightly onto striving for the plans that might make you happy for a moment. And then you aren’t clinging to the hope that one day you'll be good enough or one day you'll have made it or one day it will work out.
And then suddenly you are saying yes to what God has for you. You are saying yes to His plans, having forgotten about yours somewhere between considering and moving in obedience. You are saying yes to His grace which is sufficient as we walk with Him in this life. You are saying yes to the promise that He will be with you as you GO and make disciples. You are saying yes to unbelievable opportunities and favor. You are saying yes to opposition and trial because in this world we will have opposition, but take heart, He has overcome the world.
Then suddenly the yes isn’t scary, the scary is staying stagnant in a life that only pleases you for a moment and has no lasting impact. And then suddenly you are speaking and teaching and sharing and traveling and you think “God how did this happen and why do I get to do this?”
And He reminds you. “It’s because you told me yes. All I need is your yes. I’ll take care of the rest”. And He does. Every. Single. Time.
He takes care of me like He takes care of the sparrows. He talks with me like a Friend. And like a Father. And like a Challenger.
It’s not really too complicated. And I didn’t really do anything special. All I did was say yes. That’s my offer to you as well. My plea really. Say yes to Him. It is scary and it's worth it and it’s the most fulfilling life you could live. And upon your yes I say welcome.
Welcome to the Kingdom of God. Welcome to the most full life you could have. Here or there or anywhere. At home with your kids. At work with your coworkers. At your house with your grandchildren. At school with your classmates. ANYWHERE.
This is the full life. The good life. The best life. The blessed life. And I invite you into it. Into saying yes to the One who knows you intimately and loves you dearly and has good plans for you. Welcome to the world of yes.
Shalom from the Gospel Coffee Crew and from the heart of Miki
